Replace your electric boiler

With an increased focus on climate change and sustainability, how about taking a look at an electric boiler? More and more homeowners are switching to this option of heating, as they either don’t use gas or who lack external pipes around their property.

Electric combi boilers come in capacities of 3KW to 11KW for single-phase power, and up to 15kW for three-phase power.

Electric boiler

A 50-litre heating tank inside the boiler, delivers a whopping 12 litres of boiling water per minute.

With a 5-year manufacturer's warranty, these electric heaters are safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective.

Electric boilers have an efficiency rating of 99-100%, while the maximum efficiency of a gas boiler is rarely more than 93%. So with a boiler thats 93% efficient, for every £1 spent on heating a property, 7p is wasted on lost energy!

Types of electric boilers

Heat up water for your taps and radiators on demand. Taps and radiators do not require outside hot-water tanks, so these systems are a good option for those who don’t have much space. However, because these systems heat the water as you need it – unlike gas boilers which just provide heated air throughout the house – they use more electricity.

Provide heat to your radiators by installing a storage heater. This works best for bigger homes with higher demands on hot water. Storage heating units – unlike combi boilers – do not need to activate energy supply each time they are needed; instead, they work off of stored energy that has been heated during periods of low use-time. A downside is the unit will take up more space than a standard boiler as it needs two tanks – one holding the stored hot water and another filled with cold water from the mains supply line.

These units function similar to heat-only boilers, but use less space because all of the mechanisms used for heating the water externally – such as pumps and valves – are built into the body of this unit. This means there’s no need for a hot water tank, which saves you precious square footage.

Some manufacturers will even build in a hot water cylinder (which is normally bought separately) for extra convenience when installing these units within an airing cupboard.
